ABOUT

Wonjong Rhee is a professor in the Department of Intelligence and Information at Seoul National University (SNU) and heads the Deep Representation Learning Research Group. The group focuses on the latest advancements in AI and Data Science technologies. 


Wonjong completed his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering at Stanford University, where he was honored with a Stanford Graduate Fellowship and a KFAS scholarship. After completing his Ph.D., he worked at a Silicon Valley startup for 10 years. He was the third person to join the startup and led the development of a data-driven SAAS (Software as a Service) product for broadband network optimization. The product is currently managing 100 million households worldwide. In addition to his main duties, he assumed various roles to address the daily challenges and surprises faced by the startup. 


Throughout his career, Wonjong has been granted 70 US patents and authored 60 peer-reviewed papers, showcasing his innovative contributions. In recognition of his work in Silicon Valley, Wonjong was elected as an IEEE Fellow in his 30s.

ABOUT

Sam is the CEO and Founding Partner of Regent Partners, where he oversees operations, fundraising, and deal sourcing. He also maintains close relationships with the portfolio brands associated with the company His areas of focus within the investment sector include healthcare, entertainment / media, and retail / consumer.


Prior to establishing Regent Partners, Sam served as the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) at CTK, a cosmetics Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) company. In this role, he led initiatives in new business development, corporate M&A, investor relations, and overseas operations management.


Before joining CTK, Sam worked as a venture capitalist for BRV (Bluerun Ventures) in Seoul, Korea, focusing on investments in consumer/retail and healthcare companies as part of BRV's Asia Franchise team.


He also gained experience in investment banking at Barclays' Los Angeles office, where he covered major private equity firms on the West Coast. Prior to that, he was a private equity investor at Woori Private Equity, the private equity division of Woori Financial Group in Korea.


Sam holds an MBA from the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from New York University's Stern School of Business. In his personal life, he enjoys playing golf and skiing, as well as cherishing quality time spent with his three children.
